Insee PremièreAgriculture in 2012 in France and Europe – Results progressing again in France, but stagnating in Europe

Claire Lesdos-Cauhapé, division Industrie et agriculture, Insee

In 2012, in France and in the 27 EU Member States, the value of agricultural production increased, driven by the effect of price rises, especially for arable crops and animal products, except milk. As the price of intermediate consumption also increased, the net result of the agricultural branch per worker in real terms stagnated, on average, in the European Union, after increasing for two years. In France, however, according to the most recent provisional data, this result continued to grow (+ 5.4%), after the rises in 2011 and, above, all, in 2010. Since 2005, it has fluctuated sharply. Over the period 2005-2012, its overall progression has very slightly exceeded the European average. The French foreign trade surplus in agrifood products was stable at around €11 billion.
