Claire Lesdos-Cauhapé, division Agriculture, Insee

The 2010 agricultural year saw a decrease in cereal and oilseed crops and a steep rise in their prices after a fall in 2008 and 2009. Milk prices recovered as well. Nominal output in the agricultural sector, including product subsidies, rose 4% from 2009. Expenses declined owing to lower fertilizer prices and reduced consumption of plant protection products. Overall, agricultural income rebounded sharply after its sharp drop in 2008 and 2009. Agricultural employment continued to decline. According to the estimates for the preliminary accounts of the agricultural sector in 2010, real net income per person in employment rose 31%. As a result, net income from agricultural enterprises per self-employed worker returned to its late-1990s level.
