Consumption: France ranks first in Europe

Actual household consumption per capita in real terms in France exceeded the European average by 13% in 2009. French consumption is high for most goods and services. Prices of goods and services consumed exceed the European average by 14%, notably owing to high prices for housing expenditures. Despite a narrowing, major price gaps persist in the European Union, including in the euro zone.
