In 2009, employees of French local-government agencies (Fonction Publique Territoriale: FPT) earned an average €1,774 net per month on a full-time-equivalent basis. This represents an increase of 2.8% in current euros and 2.7% in constant euros, given the near-stability of prices in 2009. The weakest gain concerned “category B” employees, whose average earnings rose 1.6%, versus 1.9% for categories A and above, and 2.8% for category C. Median net monthly earnings came to €1,592 in 2009. While 10% lower than average net earnings, they posted a larger increase, gaining 3.1% in constant euros. For employees on the payroll of the same local-government unit in both 2008 and 2009, average earnings growth was slightly higher at 3.2% in constant euros.
