The research, studies and statistical analysis directorate of the Ministry for Health publishes figures for the number of people actively employed in a range of medical and paramedical professions regulated by the Healthcare Code: dental surgeons, independent and salaried doctors (general practitioners and specialists), pharmacists, midwives and paramedical professionals (nurses, physiotherapists, speech therapists, orthoptists, hearing aid specialists, opticians, podiatrists, occupational therapists, peripatologists, X-ray operators).
Some medical professions have their own Order: doctors, pharmacists, dentists, midwives and, more recently, physiotherapists, nurses and chiropodist.
