Définition
The types of farming (TF) are a classification of farms according to their main production (for example: "Specialist cereals, oilseed and protein crops", "market gardening" or "Specialist dairy", etc.).
Determining the type of farming of an agricultural holding is based on calculating its standard gross output (SGO), which represents the farm's potential output in euros, and is broken down according to the various types of crop and livestock production. In general, a farm is specialised if the standard gross output of the concerned production(s) exceeds two-thirds of the farm’s total SGO (for example, a farm where field crops account for more than two-thirds of the SGO would be classified as a "Specialised field crops" type).
The types of farming are a European classification, used notably in the Agricultural Census and Farm Structure Surveys ("ESEA"), as well as in the Farm Accountancy Data Network ("RICA").
