Définition
Criminal investigation statistics record criminal deeds (either committed or attempted) on the basis of the crimes or misdemeanours they are supposed to constitute and which are recorded in a report submitted to the legal authorities. Because they are reported deeds and have not been judged (only the judgement will qualify them definitively), these criminal investigation statistics are not strictly comparable with those of the criminal courts.
These statistics exclude driving offences, petty offences of all kinds, offences reported by other institutions (customs, inland revenue, fraud squad, labour inspectorate) and administrative procedures.
