Définition

A second generation descendant of immigrants is a person who is born in France with at least one immigrant parent. This means only direct descendants. Not all children of immigrants are necessarily descendants of immigrants: they may themselves be immigrants, for example if they migrated with their parents.

The geographical origin of the descendants of immigrants is determined by that of the immigrant parent, if there is only one. If both parents are immigrants, by convention, the origin of the father is chosen.

Unless otherwise specified, the term "descendants of immigrants" is used to refer to second generation descendants.
