Definition

Gross domestic expenditure on research and experimental development (GERD) is the sum of financial resources (national and foreign) used for the execution of research and experimental development (R&D) works on the national territory by the public sector (GOVERD + HERD + PNPERD) and by the business enterprise sector (BERD).

It includes current expenditure (annual wages and salaries of R&D personnel and operating expenses) and capital expenditure (purchases of equipment required for R&D).
