Parity and purchasing power

This is an EU call for proposals for grants in the area of economic governance and social and economic performance for projects to be financed as part of the European statistics programme. Eurostat is responsible for annually calculating and disseminating purchasing power parities (PPP) for the 37 countries that are part of the PPP European Comparison Programme. The action aims to guarantee the supply of high-quality and comparable entry data for the purposes of calculating purchasing power parities. The PPPs are primarily used as deflators to enable economic aggregates to be compared between countries, by removing the price level differences that exist between them.

Business and consumer surveys

The business and consumer surveys provide early indications of recent activity, the current situation and the short-term business outlook. The questions asked each month or quarter are essentially qualitative and mostly require an answer such as “increasing”, “stable” or “decreasing”. The results are disseminated before the end of the relevant month, in the form of indicators summarising the individual answers: balances of opinion and business climates. Among the nine business and consumer surveys currently conducted among businesses by INSEE, six are part of the Joint Harmonised European Union Programme of Business and Consumer Surveys piloted by the Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs (DG ECFIN) of the European Commission: the business and consumer surveys in industry, services, retail trade, construction (building and public works industry, with the survey on public works being carried out quarterly by an approved body, the National Federation of Public Works) and the quarterly survey on investments in industry.
