The National Council for Statistical Information (CNIS)

The National Council for Statistical Information (CNIS) provides a forum for consultation between producers and users of official statistics.

It expresses the requests and needs of users in terms of production and dissemination. It brings together representatives from the world of politics (assemblies and associations of territorial authorities), administration (Ministries), trade unions (employers and employees), professional bodies (Movement of Enterprises of France (MEDEF), General Confederation of SMEs (CGPME), National Federation of Farmers' Unions (FNSEA), Chambers of Commerce and Trades), associations (families, journalists, etc.), academia (teachers and researchers) and qualified individuals.

The CNIS : two committees for a specialised function

  • the Committee for the National Statistical Quality Label examines proposals on behalf of CNIS for surveys submitted by official statistics producers,
  • the Litigation Committee for compulsory statistical surveys issues opinions on individual sanctions in cases of non-response to compulsory surveys.
