The institution is placed under the authority of the Ministry for the Economy, Finance and Industry. It is under the technical supervision of INSEE.

This new status for GENES and its schools, ENSAE and ENSAI Rennes, is similar to that given to universities and Grandes Écoles.

"It is a decisive step forward in the integration of these schools into the France Campus dynamic, particularly the Paris Saclay Campus for ENSAE and the European University of Brittany Campus for ENSAI Rennes", stresses Antoine Frachot, Director of GENES.

GENES comprises :

The National School of Statistics and Economic Administration (ENSAE), which trains official statistical service administrators working in ministries, market regulation authorities and central banks, and economist-statisticians for the private sector (banks, insurance companies, consultancies, large corporations);

The National School of Statistics and Information Analysis (ENSAI), which trains official statistical service attachés and management personnel in the fields of statistical engineering, data processing and general economics for the private sector;

The Centre for the Study of Economic Programmes (CEPE), an ongoing training centre for both the public and private sectors;

The Centre for Research in Economics and Statistics (Crest).
