Warning

These provisional results are only preliminary data. Accordingly, they should not be used for contractual revaluations. The indices published here are based on a limited set of price observations and from estimates of some rates of change for fares which are not yet available. The complete results will be published on 13 May 2026.

Over a year, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) should rise by 2.2% in April 2026, after +1.7% in March, according to the provisional estimate made at the end of the month. The increase in inflation should again be driven by the sharp acceleration in energy prices (+14.2% over a year after +7.4% in March), in particular those of petroleum products. Prices of services should accelerate slightly over a year. Conversely, the prices of food should slowed down over one year, and those of manufactured products should fall slightly faster than in March. The prices of tobacco should rise at the same pace than in the previous month.

Over one month, consumer prices should increase for the third month in a row: +1.0% in April after +1.0% in March and +0.6% in February. This further increase in prices should be explained by the increase in prices of services, mostly those of transport and accommodation services, and by the sharp rise in energy prices, driven by those of petroleum products (diesel, petrol and liquid fuels). Food prices should increase slightly over one month. Month on month, the prices of manufactured products should be stable, as those of tobacco.

Year on year, the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices should rise by 2.5% in April 2026, after +2.0% in March. Over one month, it should increase by 1.2%, after +1.1% in the previous month.

Under this provisional estimate, the consumer price index (CPI) excluding tobacco for households in the first quintile of the living standards distribution would increase by 2.5% compared to November 2025, which corresponds to the index of the last annual Smic adjustment.
