The meat industry: leading sector in food industries, affected by repeated crises
In 2016, the meat industry generates one quarter of the food industry's turnover in France, or 33 billion euros. Nearly 60% comes from companies with 250 or more employees. For primary meat processors, business has been slowing down for fifteen years due to health and economic crises. Conversely, meat-based industrial preparation firms generate more added value and are more dynamic, like all the food processing industries.
