French multinational enterprise groups make half their turnover overseas
In 2016, French multinational enterprise groups (excluding the banking sector and non-market services) controlled 45,200 foreign affiliates. Their foreign affiliates accounted for 52% of their consolidated turnover and 55% of their workforce, i.e. 5.8 million people. One out of four subsidiaries is based in the United States, the United Kingdom or Germany. The employees of commercial affiliates are concentrated in China and Brazil. Large multinational enterprise groups are predominant: they combine 44% of foreign affiliates and make 82% of total consolidated turnover earned abroad.
