The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) is the common economic activity classification of the three countries of NAFTA (Canada, United States and Mexico) and has been in force since 1997. It plays the same role for North America as the NACE for the European countries. There is a national version of the NAICS for each of the three countries. Unlike the NACE, the NAICS does not fit in with ISIC, But in the course of their revisions, there is a tendency for the structures of the NAICS and ISIC to converge.
