Further decrease in services output in March 2024 (‑1.4%) Index of services production - March 2024
In March 2024, output in the services sector went down again over one month (‑1.4%), after two months of slight decline (‑0.3% in February and January).

In March 2024, output in the services sector went down again over one month (‑1.4%), after two months of slight decline (‑0.3% in February and January).
Over a month, output was down in all the main sectors, except for transportation and storage
In March 2024, output fell back significantly in professional, scientific and technical activities (‑3.6% after +1.0%), where six of the seven sub-sectors were in decline. Output also fell back sharply in the arts, entertainment and recreation sector (‑2.9% after +1.6%) and more moderately in information-communication (‑0.4% after +0.3%) and accommodation and food service activities (‑0.6% after +1.4%). It was down again in real estate activities (‑0.6% after ‑0.5%) and administrative and support service activities (‑0.2% after ‑1.1%). Finally, it was stable in transportation and storage (0.0% after a sharp drop in February: ‑4.1%).

Over a year, output in services was up by 1.6%
Output for the first quarter of 2024 was 1.6% higher than that of the same quarter of 2023. It increased significantly in information-communication (+4.1%) and arts, entertainment and recreation (+6.6%). It increased more moderately in administrative and support service activities (+2.5%), professional, scientific and technical activities (+1.1%) and accommodation and food service activities (+3.4%). Conversely, it declined in transportation and storage (‑2.6%) and real estate activities (‑2.1%).
Revisions
The monthly change in the services production index in February 2024 has been revised upwards by 0.1 points to ‑0.3% (after rounding), compared to the previous release.
