Please note:

Since the swap to the new basis 2015 in March 2018, the industrial production indices (IPI) are reviewed at the rate of one fifth of the series each year. This annual update will make it possible to improve the relevance of the IPI with regards to the evolution of technologies and production processes, by adapting the way of measuring such product, by including emerging products or, on the contrary, removing old products. The second annual review is implemented with this publication in March 2020. It has improved slightly the coverage of the industrial production index and has led to introduce two new indices: Manufacture of other products of wood; manufacture of articles of cork, straw and plaiting materials and Manufacture of jewellery and related articles. The adjusted series have been backward-reviewed from 2017. This can generate revisions on indices, even if they are rather moderate at an aggregated level. In parallel with this modification, seasonal and working-day adjustment (SA-WDA models) are reestimated on a sub-period (since 2005) to adjust indices on the recent past, in order to provide improved fit and better robustness while weights have been updated (chain-linked index).

In January 2020, output increased in the manufacturing industry (1.2%, after −2.2%), as well as in the whole industry (+1.2%, after −2.5%).

Over the last quarter, manufacturing output decreased (−1.1%)

Manufacturing output decreased over the last three months in manufacturing industry (−1.1%), as well as in the whole industry (−1.1%).

Over the last quarter, output slumped in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (−13.7%). It decreased in “other manufacturing”(−0.9%), in the manufacture of transport equipment (−2.4%), in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (−1.5%) and in mining and quarrying, energy, water supply (−0.8%). Conversely, output improved in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+0.4%).
