In November 2019, output in services increased slightly (+0.2% after −0.5% in October).

Services output increased over the last three months

Over the last three months (September to November), services output rose by 1.4% compared to the previous three months.

It increased sharply in business support activities (+2.0%): in this subsection, it grew in specialised, scientific and technical activities (+3.0%) and more moderately in administrative and business service activities (+0.7%). Output also rose sharply in information and communication (+2.1%), in transportation and storage (+1.3%) and in accommodation and food services activities (+1.1%). It grew more slightly in real estate activities (+0.6%) and decreased in household services (−1.7%).

Output grew strongly over a year

In services, output of the last three months rose strongly over a year (+3.5%).

It went up strongly in business support (+3.5%); it was a little more marked in administrative and business service activities (+3.9%) than in specialised, scientific and technical activities (+3.2%). It also grew sharply in information and communication (+4.6%), in accommodation and food service activities (+4.4%), in transportation and storage (+2.7%), in household services (+3.1%) and in real estate activities (+1.7%).

In November 2019, sharp rebound in household services

In November 2019, output in household services bounced back sharply (+2.5% after −1.9% in October). It rebounded strongly in arts, entertainment and recreation (+3.9% after −3.3%) whereas it turned down slightly in other personal services production (−0.2% after +0.8%).

Further increase in accommodation and food service activities

In November 2019, output in accommodation and food service activities ramped up (+1.0% after +0.4% in October). It went up be it in food and beverage service activities (+0.9% after −0.1%) or in accommodation (+1.2% after +2.1%).

Further rise in information and communication

Output in information and communication grew again in November 2019 (+0.3% after +0.3% in October). The strong decrease in edition (−5.9% after +1.4%) was offset by rises in telecommunications (+2.9% after +0.2%), in computer programming (+0.4% after +0.2%), in programming and broadcasting activities (+3.6% after +4.3%) and in motion picture, sound recording, music publishing (+0.4% after −2.8%). The output was near stable in information services, after an increase of +0,7% in October.

Further decrease in transportation and storage

Output in transportation and storage turned down again in November 2019 (−1.1% after −2.4% in October). It went down in warehousing and support for transportation (−3.9% after +0.1%) and in postal and courier activities (−8.0% after +0.4%). However, the output bounced back in air transport (+6.2% after −8.9%), in land transport (+0.7% after −2.6%) and in water transport (+1.2% after −14.9%).

Near-stability in business support

In November 2019, output in business support activities remained near stable (−0.1% after +0.1% in October).

Output dwindled in specialised, scientific and technical activities (−0.4% after +0.9% in October): it fell back strongly in architecture and engineering activities (−4.0% after +4.2%) and in activities of head offices and management consultancy (−2.2% after a stability). By contrast, it grew in legal and accounting activities (+2.6% after +0.6%), in scientific research and development (+1.5% after −0.3%), in advertising and market research (+2.0% after −1.0%) and in other professional, scientific and technical activities (+1.7% after +1.2%).

Output rebounded in administrative and business support activities (+0.5% after −1.1%). It bounced back in employment activities (+1.9% after −1.3%), in services to building and landscape activities (+1.6% after −1.6%), in activities of security and investigation (+2.0% after −1.8%) and in other administrative and business support activities (+0.5% after −1.2%). However, it diminished in rental and leasing activities (−1.5% after +0.4%) and in travel agency, tour operator (−1.9% after +0.1%).
