In September 2017, output bounced back slightly in the manufacturing industry (+0.4% after −0.3% in August) and in the whole industry (+0.6% after −0.2%).

The commentary shows variations of subsections by decreasing contribution. The contribution of a subsection depends on the extent of the change and on its weight.

In September 2017, output bounced back slightly in the manufacturing industry (+0.4% after −0.3% in August) and in the whole industry (+0.6% after −0.2%).

Manufacturing output grew over the third quarter of 2017 (+0.6%)

Over the third quarter of 2017, output increased in the manufacturing industry (+0.6%) as well as in the overall industry (+0.6%).

Output grew strongly in the manufacture of transport equipment (+4.8%). It went up in mining and quarrying, energy, water supply (+1.0%) and more moderately in “other manufacturing” (+0.2%). It remained stable in the manufacture of food products and beverages. Conversely, it decreased in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (−0.9%) and in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (−2.1%).

Over a year, manufacturing output expanded sharply (+2.7%)

Manufacturing output of the third quarter of 2017 increased markedly compared to the same quarter of 2016 (+2.7%), as well as in the whole industry (+2.7%).

Over a year, output rose markedly in “other manufacturing” (+2.1%). It soared in the manufacture of transport equipment (+8.7%). It increased sharply in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (+2.9%) and in mining and quarrying, energy, water supply (+2.3%), and more slightly in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+0.4%). On the contrary, it diminished in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (−0.8%).

In September, output bounced back in “other manufacturing” (+1.7% after −1.6%)

Output recovered strongly in pharmaceuticals (+12.1% after −13.9%). It picked up in other manufacturing; repair and installation of machinery and equipment (+1.5%) and in the manufacture of rubber and plastics products and other non-metallic mineral products (+1.2%). It grew again in chemicals (+0.7%). Conversely, it slipped back in the manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products (−1.0%) and in textiles, wearing apparel, leather and related products (−3.1%). It remained virtually stable in wood, paper and printing industries (−0.1%).

Output rose in mining and quarrying; energy; water supply; waste management (+1.8% after −0.1%)

Output went up sharply in electricity, gas (+2.3%) after a slight fall in August (−0.3%).

Output grew again in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+0.3% after +0.5%)

Output rose further in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+0.3% after +0.5%) due to the manufacture of cocoa, chocolate and sugar confectionery.

Output was virtually stable in machinery and equipment goods (+0.1% after −0.9%)

Output bounced back in the manufacture of electrical equipment (+2.4% after −2.4%) and in the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (+0.9% after −1.5%). Conversely, it fell back in the manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c. (−1.7% after +0.3%).

Output grew slightly in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+0.4%)

Output increased slightly in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+0.4%) after a virtual stability in August.

Output slipped back in the manufacture of transport equipment (−4.3% after +5.3%)

Output slipped back markedly in the manufacture of other transport equipment (−10.3% after +12.1%). By contrast, it bounced back in the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (+3.8% after −2.6%).
