In September 2017, the number of business births for all entreprises was pratically stable (+0.2%, seasonally and working-day adjusted). Start-ups excluding self-managed micro-entrepreneurs increased slightly (+0.5%) and micro-entrepreneurs' registrations were almost unchanged (−0.2%).

+7.4% year on year (quaterly basis)
Compared to the same period one year before, the raw amount of births added up in the third quarter went up sharply (+7.4% in raw data). Micro-entrepreneurs' registrations speeded up again (+14.1% after +12.1%) and company births kept growing (+4.6% after +6.1%). Sole proprietorship start-ups excluding micro-entrepreneurs went up too but at a slower pace (+1.0%). Business support activities and other service activities were the sectors that contributed the most to the overall rise1.

+3.2% over the last twelve months
The raw number of business start-ups totted up during the last twelve months kept increasing (+3.2% after +3.4%). Company births rose by +4.6% and the other types of business start-ups expanded more modestly: +2.6% for micro-entrepreneurs' registrations and +2.4% for sole proprietorship start-ups excluding self-managed micro-entrepreneurs.
Two business set-ups out of five are self-managed micro-entrepreneurs' registrations
In September 2017, the share of micro–entrepreneurs' registrations in the businesses set up over the last twelve months edged up for the third month in a row, at 40.3%.

The variation in the overall number of business births in August 2017 has been lowered by 0.2 points to −1.2% due to the revision of raw data and the update of the SA-WDA parameters.
