Monitoring tourist demand
The tourist demand survey (SDT) makes it possible to estimate the number of nights spent by residents of metropolitan France in all accommodation in metropolitan France, whether commercial or non-commercial, in the overseas departments and abroad, based on their declaration.
Insee took over responsibility for the SDT survey in 2020 from the Direction Générale
des Entreprises (DGE). It is carried out by an external service provider.
The methods for correcting for nonresponse have been revised to improve the estimation
of the number of trips and overnight stays. This redesign has led to higher levels
of estimates than those previously published by the DGE, but does not change the analyses
of evolution.
