Documentation on detailed files

The purpose of anonymised detailed files is to provide well-informed professional users (public bodies, local authorities, large corporations, consulting and engineering firms, researchers, etc.) with the opportunity to make personalised use of population census data. These files can be used to conduct exploratory data analyses, to model behaviour or simply to tabulate for a given sub-population defined according to certain criteria: geographical zone and/or statistical unit with certain characteristics.

Warning : to read or process these large files, you must use a database manager of statistical software programme.

Legislative framework

These files comply with the reference framework defined by theOuvrir dans un nouvel onglet Ruling of 19 July 2007on the publication of population census results. In order to guarantee the confidentiality of individual data:

  • the files are compiled using data from complementary processing, except for the Dwellings file (data from main processing);
  • the publication thresholds of those variables subject to restricted publication are strictly complied with;
  • the data comprising the two locations is only provided in the files on commuting and residential migration and is accompanied by a very limited number of socio-demographic variables.

Geography and territorial modifications

The data for year n is presented in the geographical boundaries (municipalities and IRIS) in force on 1st January n+2.
